The Archetypes as Represented by the Characters in the Bible (Old Testament)

An archetype is an original pattern, model or symbol, that represents an idea or concept. It is a typical or classic example of a pattern for other things of the same type. The Bible has many archetypes being embodied by the characters. In this blogpost, five characters in the Old Testament will be characterized as to how they embody an archetype: Eve as the Femme Fatale, Rahab as the Divine Prostitute, Ruth as the Damsel in Distress, Joseph as the Hero, and Job as the Innocent Sufferer.

                                 

          One of the most considered Femme Fatales in the Bible is Eve, the first woman. A Femme Fatale (French, “Deadly Woman”), according to Encarta Dictionaries, is “a woman who is considered to be highly attractive and to have a destructive effect on those who succumb to her charms”. A Femme Fatale brings disaster to a man or men who become involved with her. In the Bible, Eve is the archetype of a Femme Fatale because of her seductive beauty that lead Adam, the first man, to eat the forbidden fruit in the garden of Eden which then lead to a destructive effect. She is therefore considered to be the Femme Fatale because of her involvement with the fall of men. She was first succumbed to temptation when the evil serpent persuades her to eat the forbidden fruit and therefore lead Adam’s downfall. It is in Genesis 3:12 where Adam told God of Eve’s fault, “And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.” (KJV). And the destruction that Eve, the Femme Fatale, had caused was stated in Genesis 3:23-24, “Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken. So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming

READING LOGS 4: Aries Rising

-Part 1-

1.) Reflect - I like the idea of having an Astrology Book that helps you achieve your goals. Logan was just so determined on doing what she wanted to happen, of course with the help of her new bestfriend: Fearless Astrology. Fortunately, she succeeded. She impressed Mr. Frankenstein and got a slot in the summer writing camp in Monterey, she got a date with Nathan, and she kept her "Star-Crossed" Column in their school paper. What I had predicted at the middle pages was of course the identity of the "Gears of War". I had predicted that Nathan and his friends are the members of the Gears, though I still did not have enough evidences but I suspected them before I went through the last pages. I was even shocked that Geneva is also one of the Gears. The one who's aggressiveness is too obvious was the one I had suspected the least. I was just sad that Nathan still chose Geneva over Logan. :(

READING LOGS 3: Dorothy and Agatha

Reflect- Dorothy was so uncertain. She was hopeless. She cannot come up with a decision that can address to the case. Agatha and her ideas had chained every situation and evidences they had gathered.




Connect – I love watching investigative series and as I read this, I can relate it to what I previously watching. The story was the same. It covered a murder case that deals with being greedy and of self interest. The conflict can be applied in real life. I think that it has a universal plot for it has the same plot as the other novels and TV series. The theme is similar of the investigative series I used to watch. 




Question- I wonder why inspector Petry did not think of other possible situation on the case. He was just focusing that is was a suicide. Why would a detective think that way? I also wonder why Mr. Mac Fleming appeared and revealed the truth by the time that the killer already had a chance to kill Dorothy. He hid himself all the time as if he was really scared of what will happen to him.




Predict – I think after the case was resolved Dorothy will be at ease. She will not be bothered anymore of the murder in her house. Agatha will also be at eased for the crime was solved. The murderer will be punished for the things she had done. The Flemings will start a new life and will bury the scenario they had overcome in their lives.

READING LOGS 2: The Name of This Book is Secret

The Name of This Book is Secret

1. Reflect - I like how Pseudonymous Bosch (that's what we call him or her) narrates the story that he communicates directly to the readers. Cassandra and Max-Ernest were trying to solve the mysteries behind the symphony of smells - the box full of scent vials, the old diary of an eccentric magician Pietro Bergamo who has vanished under strange circumstances, and the disappearance of Benjamin Blake who has a Synesthesia - a kind of sensational disorder which have been the cause of his disappearance. These adventures are too complex for kids like them but they really were capable to handle it. They are very brave to risk and kudos to them because they are kids!

I like the book because it contains hidden codes to discover, brain-twisting riddles to be solved, audacious kidnappings and nefarious villains to encounter. The partnership of Cas and Max-Ernest makes up the story's adventurous-funny-exciting mood, though Max-Ernest has that talking problems which somehow annoys me through his long structured sentences which contains some non-important things in Cas's life, in my life, and in anybody's life. 

2. Connect - I was laughing when I was thinking what to write here. I have thought about how Cassandra prepares for disasters that might befall to her, to her family, and to her friends. She was all geared up - she carries a lot of stuffs from flashlight to compass, ropes to first-aid kit, dust masks to matches, topographic maps, extra pair of socks, matches, plastic knife to bubble gums! She also brings schoolbooks and homework when she remembers, which is not very often. None of the disasters she predicted had befallen her.

I remembered a time when I was with my grandmother at home, and I somehow have heard of a scheduled brownout that is going to happen at 7pm that night. It's 6pm and I planned to get ready before the brownout strikes. I shut down my computer, got the lighter on my hand, gathered some candles, and even messaged my friends that I am ready for the brownout. It's 6:59 on my watch then I started lighting up the candles so there would be no shocking darkness at 7pm!


It's 7pm! And there were no signs of brownout. I thought of the "Filipino Time" so I did not put the candles' lights off in case my watch is a bit advanced. 10 minutes have passed but still, no brownouts have come so I decided to put the lights off. Like Cas, I was so "geared up" at that night but it turned up so shameful to set candles around even when the lights are on - It was like being too advanced for All Soul's Day.


3. Question - I am just wondering about Max-Ernest's parents that they did not even think they are causing a lot of stress to their son. Also, how did Max-Ernest able to minimize his annoying talking problems for a day or was that a week? Did his parents stopped rephrasing the sentences of the other while speaking to him? I'm asking about these things because if Max-Ernest continue being so talkative, what could it be like? Will they be too late to save Benjamin Blake? Will they fail to unlock the secret inside the magician's notebook?


4. Predict - I think Cassandra and Max-Ernest, like Benjamin Blake, will also be in danger after becoming members of the Terces Society. For sure, they will soon be trained how to be like the Bergamo Brothers and discover the dangerous secret thereafter. And as the training goes by, I think Max-Ernest will soon have his talking problems gone. The partnership of Cass and Max-Ernest will be of a great help to the Terces Society in fighting the Masters of the Midnight Sun. Soon enough, Cass can use her survivalist items more frequently - or just frequently - than before. For short, a great change in their lives will make the tandem more mature and less corny.
